“It’s going to be a great ceremony. I’ve managed national cemeteries for 30 years and this state cemetery for seven years and I’ve never seen a ceremony like this at any of them,” said Stephen Jorgensen, administrator of Shasta County’s state-run veterans cemetery.

A total of 179 tons of junk was collected, sorted, recycled or deposited at the Shasta County landfill during the week of April 23-29, said Steven Ayers, the city’s building inspector and code enforcement officer who co-chaired Spring Clean-Up efforts along with Anderson Police Officer Association President Robert Modin.
By comparison, a total of 110 tons was similarly collected in 2010 and 163 tons in 2011, Ayers said.

Council members unanimously approved contract terms with new City Manager Jeff Kiser and then halted proceedings for 15 minutes to eat a round cake decorated to look like the planned roundabout.
"I guess you could say we got our roundabout and ate it, too," one wag was overheard telling Mayor James Yarbrough during the festivities.

“My brother was married here four years ago, so in a way, we are carrying on a tradition,” explained Hathaway, 40, of Millville.
“Besides, it is a beautiful spot with the Sacramento River nearby, the big trees and all of the picnic areas so conveniently nearby,” he said as he greeted some of the couple’s 170 invited guests.
“We wanted to get married outdoors and I grew up in Anderson, so I really enjoy the park and its many trails along the river. My best friend had a wedding at the park and you really can’t beat the price for what is included in the rental fee,” Ms. Hagar, 34, of Anderson said several days before the nuptial ceremony.

“It really was an incredible time. It was a life-changing experience. By the end of the week, we were like family,” Brumbaugh, 17, said of Camp Royal, a leadership camp sponsored by most of the 71 Rotary International clubs in District 5160 that includes much of northern California between the San Francisco Bay Area and the Oregon state line.
Camp Royal is the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference offered each June since 1979 at Camp Trinity on the Bar 717 Ranch in Hyampom.

The sky was still pitch black, but she was expecting more than 100 relatives to show up for Easter dinner and she wanted everything to be ready, she said while taking a brief break on the couch to rest her legs just after 11 a.m.
“I start about a month ahead preparing for this event,” Mrs. Shoup said of the family’s potluck reunion tradition that started in 1957 and was about to play itself out for the 55th and final time at her home later that day.
