It wasn't long before a ring of flames surrounded the heater's base and then began to climb the back wall of the house.
Fred Villasenor was inside, upstairs with his wife, putting together the final preparations for the battered women's retreat they had planned for the weekend to be held on a ranch in Whitmore. Villasenor is the pastor of La Nueva Vida Church in Red Bluff.

Over $1,280 was raised thanks in part to food donations form local grocery stores.
The patrol's yearly budget requires $9,000 per year for gas, vehicle maintenance and uniforms. The patrol utilizes 20 volunteers.

Happy Valley Elementary School was the first of four schools to host a healthy cooking presentation in collaboration with Mercy Medical Center. The demonstrations are funded by a $5,095 grant from Kohl's Cares for Kids, and are designed to teach families the importance of adapting healthy eating habits.
