Dear Editor,

I am writing on behalf of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. As the current President of the Board, I want to add the chamber’s support to the City’s efforts to bring the new Shasta County Courthouse to Anderson.

With the site that is located at the Northeast corner of the I-5 Riverside Avenue interchange comes many benefits for our City.

This facility would bring employment opportunities to the area as well as attracting potential customers to our retail and service sector.

We are writing in regards to the proposed routing of the Tullis gravel trucks for the Shasta Ranch Mining and Reclamation Plan. It has come to our attention that it appears that the county recommendation is suggesting that these trucks will be routed through downtown Cottonwood.

I live in the newly constructed Jerry Knighten subdivision next to the property in question (the 56 acres south of Dan Gamel). I have grave concerns about an auto mall at this location.

Why spend more money on additional consultant reports when common sense should be enough? Reports have indicated the necessity to build a new animal shelter for years while the current shelter continues to deteriorate. Take a look at some of the facts: Although one consultant report indicated the definite need for a new shelter eons ago the county did nothing except waste money on a second report which was useless.

You hear it all the time that our society is rapidly dropping the higher standards once held up with pride, more and more accepting to a lower quality blend of policies in our school districts. I’m sure it all started in the 60’s with the outcry for more “freedom of expression?” and the burning of long cultivated values that set this nation above the others. It’s all about me instead of we today.
