West Valley makes it to championships

West Valley will be headed to Red Bluff High School on Saturday for the Northern Section volleyball final. After hosting a tough game against Gridley (19-13) on Tuesday night, West Valley (33-8) was able to push through for the win, sweeping the match 25-19, 25-14, 25-17.

The Annual Northern California Federation Division II North Cheerleading Competition was recently held at Central Valley High School, and Anderson had five cheerleading squads ranging in age from five to 14 in the competition.

Anderson unable to stop Corning

The Cubs traveled south to Corning for their final game of the season, they fell to the Cardinals 40-21.Anderson fought to catch up to the Cardinals until the very end, but an interception with 2:14 left in the fourth quarter clinched the game for Corning. They scored a couple of plays later bringing the score to 40-21.

Junior Eagles go to Pop Warner playoffs

The West Valley Junior Eagles midgets, junior midgets and pee wee football teams began their first round of the Pop Warner playoffs this weekend. The midgets, coached by John Karpiuski, beat the Chico Scorchers at home (West Valley High School) 46-15. The midgets team went into the playoffs 9-0 in their division and are seeded number one.

Happy Valley girls win Tournament

That Happy Valley seventh grade girls basketball team, won their first tournament since 2007. The team began practicing together approximately two weeks ago; the 10 girls on the Lady Vikings Basketball team are coached by Cory Francescut and Mike Nagely.

Cause of death known for Yreka runner

The cause of death for the Yreka runner who collapsed at West Valley High School has been discovered.According to Stacey Willison, the mother of 16-year old Chris Lopez, the doctors at Mercy Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit told her he collapsed due to a virus of the heart. The doctor went on to explain that every time Lopez practiced or ran a race it damaged his heart a little more, and possibly spread to his lungs, causing his heart to fail sending him into possible cardiac arrest.

West Valley continues its two-week losing streak with a loss on the road to Central Valley.Going into half time the score was 37-28 with Central Valley in the lead. The Falcons would go on to hold off the Eagles in a 44-34 victory making it only the second time Central Valley has won the Valley Bowl, the first time was in 2005.

Golf ends strong

The last week of the Anderson girls' golf season was very busy, but very successful.The first match was held on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Mt. Shasta Resort. This was the first time Shannon Westmoreland and Whitley Gibson played an 18-hole competition.
