DINNER BELL - Cindy Nelson and Bob Rupert help the Anderson Rotary to serve the International House scholars from Berkeley on March 28.

North State Rotarians exposed 38 international scholars to a generous dose of Americana hospitality last week.

“One of the best student groups we have hosted in the last 15 years,” said Dave Dennis, event chairman. Redding Rotary has hosted and entertained more than 1500 students from the U of Cal International House since 1953.

This great event was hailed as successful by host families and scholars alike. “A great event,” “Every aspect exceeded our hopes” and “Most memorable” are quotes from the scholars.

Highlights of Day One were a welcome dinner at the Riverview Golf and Country Club sponsored by the Robert Roberts Foundation managed by Carole Reynolds.

During the visit Anderson Rotary club again hosted a fun evening of traditional BBQ fare and line dancing instructions for the scholars.

Skiing, a visit to Shasta Dam, Turtle Bay, Sundial Bridge and the Cascade Theatre were events on the tour. Cowboy life was experienced at the Rich Morgan Ranch near Cottonwood.

The group stopped at the Record Searchlight office and Sierra Pacific Plant. Most of the scholars were from China and Hong Kong with some others from Germany, Netherlands, Panama, Wales, Japan and Mexico.

Chairman Dennis expressed his thanks to committee members Dave Regnell, Steve Gaston, John Dunlap, Ken Wood, Bob Allen, John Rooney, Dick Franks, Bob Jones and Fred Hurst and all the people that hosted students.
