Baseball
The Anderson Cubs mauled the Central Valley Falcons 10-3 on Tuesday, March 27, at Volonte Park. The Northern Athletic League game saw Cub Cody McCary with the win as Anderson (2-0 NAL, 7-5) jumped out to a 5-0 lead. After CV cut to 5-3 in the top of the fifth, the Cubs had another rally in the 5th inning with five runs. Kody Kraft had a three-run home run as he went 3-for-4 for the day. Tyler Rodebaugh went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for Anderson.
Softball
Codi Kaiser and Megan Remley both went 2-3 for the day with Remley registering an RBI for the Anderson Lady Cubs. Lassen beat Anderson 9-3.
Track
In the Hornet Invitational at Enterprise High School last Saturday, West Valley came in first with both boys’ and girls’ events. West Valley boys had 86 points while the girls racked up 123.33 points. Enterprise took second with 44.93 points followed by Foothill with 45.13.
Josh McOmber and the West Valley High School relay team with Ethan Ostrom, Anthony Oliva and Tanner Schaeffer took the 400 meter relay in 44.07 seconds.
The Eagles’ girls sprint relay team also won when Amanda Oliva, Halie Linschoten, Rachelle Russell and Taylor Samuels registered a 52.10. Oliva won the 100 meters with a 13.32 with Russell in second at 13.47.
Russell took the triple jump with 34-feet, 6 1/4 inches and Ashley Turner won the discus with a 116-7 throw over Foothill.
Josh McOmber took the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.77, the 300 hurdles with a 39.24 and the long jump with 21-11 1/2.
Ostrom took the pole vault at 14-3 for the Eagles and Lady Eagle Alyssa Christensen won the 300 hurdles in 47.73.
Anthony Oliva took the 100 dash in 11.34, ahead of Enterprise’s Ty Houghton.
Central Valley’s Eric Carey won a three-man duel for the high jump of 6-2 beating Anderson’s Cody McNamara and Foothill’s Mark Snider.
West Valley’s Stephanie Alward took the 100 hurdles at 16.91.
Racing
The 60th year of racing started this past weekend at Shasta Raceway Park (SRP) at the Shasta District Fair grounds.
The Bay Cities Racing Association (BCRA) Midgets, along with the New Spec Sprint Car Class, went around the 3/8-mile track, as well as the Legends of the Pacific and Bombers. This was be the first of two BCRA events at SRP this season.
Drivers entered from California, Utah, Texas and Washington. 2005 and 2006 BCRA Champion John Sarale from Stockton was scheduled to drive.
The new Spec Sprint Car class debuted at SRP as drivers from Northern California took their dirt Sprint Cars to see how the cars work on pavement.
The second event will be a combined meeting with the Washington State Midget Racing Association (WMRA) for the fourth annual “Pop Porter Memorial.” Stay tuned.
