Native Americans share culture

DRUM - The DAWI Drum Group will perform at the Anderson High School Wed., April 25 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and tomorrow at West Valley School, at the same times, for Native American Heritage and Culture Day.

The Native American Student Service Association (NASSA) of the Anderson Union High School District will present Native American Heritage and Culture Days April 25-26.

Today the program will be held at Anderson High School from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. and at the same times tomorrow, April 26, on the West Valley High School campus .

Presentations will include tanning of hides, traditional food and a taste of fry bread. Flute making, a teepee display and a local tribal “bark house” will be shown.

The Native American Drum Group DAWI will perform both days at the schools. Other activities will include stories of local American Indian tribes, the arts and crafts of the native people and information about the traditional use of tobacco vs. non-traditional use.

The program will give students and staff the opportunity to learn about local Native Americans with an emphasis on American and United States history, United States government and Social Science classes.
