BIG RIG BUILDING: Construction workers from Rackley Co. install the “soffit,” which is another term for an outdoor ceiling.

Construction on the Redding Kenworth development at 3700 Automall Dr., in Anderson, should be completed in spring of 2008, according to Roberts Motor Co. spokesman Mike Pati.

We’re probably going to keep the same name because it’s been that way for so long,” Pati said. “The irony isn’t lost on me that the sign out there says “City of Anderson welcomes Redding Kenworth Company.”

Redding Kenworth has occupied the location at the corner of I-5 and Churn Creek Road for nearly 40 years. It will move its business to Anderson upon the new building’s construction. Construction on the project began in June this year.

The Anderson home for Redding Kenworth will be three times the size of its previous occupancy.

“It made sense to relocate; the existing facility is at the end of its life,” Pati said. “We’re bursting at the seams.”

Despite the bigger size of the building, Redding Kenworth does not expect to hire many new workers.
