Editor:
I would like to respond to Jim Maxwell’s response (Jan. 31) to an editorial written by Rod Evans (Jan 24). First, have you asked other local businesses if the new Wal-Mart Center has hurt the area? You say that “it doesn’t seem to have hurt the area.“ How do you know?
Second, you say that the auto park will “create over 3,300 new jobs“ when we all know that most of these jobs will simply move over, just like the dealerships propose. Will you be using all local contractors on the project or will much of the construction money head south with the workers once the project is complete?
And finally, I have to wonder about Mr. Maxwell’s delusions of grandeur when he says that “This is the most exciting project that has ever come to Northern California.” This project falls so far below being the “most exciting project“ that to list all the ones that really ARE exciting would take too much space here. The excitement comes when Mr. Maxwell thinks of all the money he is going to end up with when this is all said and done. Just who is it that is misleading the public? Mr. Evans or Mr. Maxwell?
