Wal-Mart signs checks for community

COMMUNITY BOOST— Left to right, Michele Erickson, Anderson Partnership for Healthy Children; Rochelle Roberts, Wal-Mart; Kathy Draper and Shirley Quibell, both of Meadow Lane School; Tim Trimble, Wal-Mart store manager; and Mike Evans, ACCA accepted checks from Wal-Mart for community organizations.

At the 9 a.m. associate’s meeting in Wal-Mart Friday, store manager Tim Trimble handed checks to various organizations serving the Anderson area totaling $6,250.

“It’s an opportunity to give back to the community which has given so much to us,” Trimble said.

Michele Erickson received $1,500 on behalf of Anderson Partnership for Healthy Children. The money will be used towards the new Teen Center.

Representing Meadow Lane School, Kathy Draper and Shirley Quibell received a check for $1,000. The money will be spent on playground equipment that includes an outdoor basketball court and running track.

Rochelle Roberts, a Wal-Mart employee, received a $250 check for her volunteer work as co-leader for Girl Scouts Troop #158.

On behalf of the Anderson Rotary, Tim Trimble accepted the $2,500 check to provide college scholarship money for students of Anderson High School District.

Mike Evans accepted a $1,000 check for the Anderson/Cottonwood Christian Association. The money will help overhaul their walk-in cooler and freezer to store food for South County families.
