HOT SHOT — Codi Kaiser and the Anderson Lady Cubs are off to an impressive start in the Division IV playoffs, earning blowout victories over Central Valley and Winters last week.

The No. 2 Anderson Cubs opened up the Division IV playoffs with a convincing victory over the No. 15 Central Valley, 60-38.

The Lady Cubs had built a 40-18 lead by halftime, before most of their starters gave way to their reserve players.

Molly Morton led the effort with 19 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Megan Remley helped lead the Cubs from the outside.

Courtney Baker led Anderson’s second squad with eight points, while Corinna Asher and Carissa Ballew each had six points, respectively.

The Lady Cubs continued their trek toward the Division IV title with a lopsided victory over No. 7 Winters later in the week, 56-19.

Morton paced Anderson with 23 points, while teammates Remley (9 points), Amrallina Rowland (9 points) and Asher (8 points) also contributed offensively.

The No. 2 West Valley Eagles didn’t play last week after receiving a first round bye in the Division III playoffs.

Boys Hoops

The No.14 Anderson Cubs dropped their Division IV playoff match-up with the No. 3 Orland Trojans last week, 55-28.

Trailing 23-12 at halftime, the Cubs were outscored 20-4 in the third quarter, squashing any hopes they had of pulling off the upset.

Cody McNamara was the only Anderson player to score in double figures, he led the Cubs with 11 points.

The No. 1 West Valley Eagles didn’t play last week after receiving a first round bye in the Division III playoffs.

Boys Soccer

The Anderson Cubs’ season came to an end last week with a 2-1 double overtime loss to the Sutter Huskies.

The game went scoreless in the first half of play, before Sutter took a 1-0 lead in the second half. With time and the Cubs’ championship hopes running out, Shin Gabriele kept Anderson alive with a game-tying penalty kick in the waning moments.

After the Cubs and Huskies played to a stalemate through the first overtime, Sutter managed to secure the game with a goal in the opening minutes of the second overtime.
