The West Valley Eagles managed a 0-0 tie in their game against the Corning Cardinals this week, before dropping a tough 2-1 loss against Central Valley. The Lady Eagles face the rival Anderson Cubs tomorrow.

Girls Hoops

The West Valley Lady Eagles jumped out to a 30-11 first half lead in their game against the Lassen Grizzlies early last week and never looked back.

Tabytha Wampler scored 18 points and recorded 12 rebounds and Rocky Russell added 15 points and six rebounds in leading the Eagles over the Grizzlies.

The Eagles used a 22-7 fourth quarter run to earn a road victory over the Yreka Miners on Friday, as Wampler led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

West Valley's Jasmine Mally provided some sharp shooting from the outside, hitting four three-pointers en route to a 16-point effort.

The Lady Eagles (13-4, 2-1 NAL) continue NAL play with road contests at Corning and Central Valley this week.

Boys Hoops

The West Valley Eagles captured their sixth straight victory last week in defeating the Lassen Grizzlies in Susanville, 63-36.

Garhett Parent scored 19 points to lead the Eagles, while teammate Troy Duenas added 16 points.

The dynamic duo of Parent and Duenas also led the way in the Eagles' 66-52 home victory over Yreka on Friday, scoring 20 and 26 points, respectively.

West Valley (15-3, 3-0 NAL) hosts Corning early this week before hitting the road to play the Central Valley Falcons in Shasta Lake City on Friday.

Girls Soccer

West Valley goalkeeper Jennifer Mueller held the Corning Cardinals scoreless in their NAL game early last week, which enabled the Lady Eagles to earn a 0-0 tie.

In a game against Central Valley later in the week, the Eagles dropped a heartbreaker 2-1. Jessie Bailey scored the Eagles' only goal.

The Lady Cubs' dropped a 1-0 contest to Corning last week, despite some solid play from Bethany Dunlap, Erica Stricker and Laurie Loomis. Anderson goalkeeper Dana Dayton provided eight saves in the contest for the Lady Cubs.

The Cubs will host the Eagles in an NAL match-up tomorrow.

Boys Soccer

Anderson's Robbie Robertson and Shin Gabriele scored off assists from teammate Josh Sherman to send a 2-2 tie into overtime against the Corning Cardinals, where the Cubs prevailed 3-2 in a shootout.

West Valley's Derek Williamson found the net in the opening minutes of the Eagles' game against Central Valley last week; however, that was all West Valley could muster as they dropped the contest 5-1.

The Eagles (2-5-1, 1-4 NAL) will look to turn things around as they host rival Anderson tomorrow.

NAL Wrestling

The Cubs grapplers remained undefeated (8-0) in dual meet action with their 36-31 NAL victory over Corning Cardinals on Wednesday.

The match came down to the final contest between Anderson's Blake Davis and his Cardinal opponent Jared Minoletti, the fourth ranked wrestler in the section. Despite being the underdog Davis captured a 2-1 victory that caused an eruption in the Cubs' stands and brought Anderson the victory.

The West Valley Eagles took sixth place in the 17-team North Coast Classic, as Justin Zacharias took first with four wins at 145 lbs. The Eagles' Nick Brewer and Derrick Clark finished second in their respective weight class, while Michael Maynard took fifth.

Little League

Anderson Little League will have sign-ups on Saturday, 1-3 p.m. at Volonte park for athletes considering playing t-ball, farm league, minors or majors.

Parents must have a proof of residency and a copy of a birth certificate to sign-up. The cost will be $65 for major and minor players, $50 for farm league and t-ball.
