In Yreka, in the championship game on Tuesday, July 10, Cottonwood took the District 1, 11-12 All-Stars tournament by beating Red Bluff 6-2.
The winning pitcher was Blake Adkins with nine strikeouts, two walks, allowing five hits.
Adkins, 1-for-2, had a home run which brought in two more runs. Justin Harman, 2-for-2, and Clayton Rhodes, 2-for-4, brought in one run. Veatch, 2-for-4, brought in a run.
How they got to be champs
Game 1, Sunday, July 1
The District 1 All-Star tournament got underway with Cottonwood taking the Foothill team 8-5. The Cottonwood Dodgers starting pitcher Blake Adkins had eight strikeouts and walked two in five and two-thirds innings. Dylon Rosen got the win and had one strikeout in a one-third inning.
Matt Hambly was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Scott Ferris registered four RBIs with his walk-off grand slam bottom of the sixth inning.
Final score -- Cottonwood 8, Foothill 5.
Game 2, Friday, July 6
After five innings the Red Bluff team had to call it quits when Cottonwood set the score at 14-4. Scott Ferris got the win with seven strikeouts, three walks, and four hits in, five innings.
Blake Adkins went 2-for-3, with two home runs and five RBIs. Matt Hambly, 3-for-3, had a home run and brought in four runs. Justin Harman went 4-for-4, with two RBIs. Clayton Rhodes went 2-for-3.
Final score -- Cottonwood 14, Red Bluff 4.
Game 3, Sunday, July 8
On Sunday, July 8, Cottonwood beat West Redding 12-5. The winning pitcher was Justin Harman. He had two strikeouts and three walks in five innings.
Scott Ferris went 3-for-4, with a home run bringing in three runs. Clayton Rhodes was 2-for-2, with a home run and two RBIs. Cody Veatch was 2-for-4.
Final score -- Cottonwood 12, West Redding 5.
The Section 2 Tournament will be held in Chico starting this Friday July 20. The Cottonwood Dodgers will play the winners of District 48. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
West Redding takes Cottonwood in LL All-Star game
A week ago Tuesday, July 10, a two-RBI walk-off single gave West Redding the win over Cottonwood 10-9. West Redding’s Trevor Russell had the winning hit in the sixth inning.
Cottonwood was behind West Redding 8-4 until the top of the sixth inning. Cottonwood then ran up five runs to take the lead 9-8. Russell had the West Redding single, which knocked in the runners on second and third base.
West Redding will play in the section tournament tomorrow night at K2 in Caldwell Park.
