RIBBON-READY: The new Teen Center and Public Health office building in Anderson will offer one-stop shopping for health and youth programs. The public is invited to the ribbon cutting today at noon.

Culminating over six years of planning and work, the City of Anderson and Shasta County jointly cut the ribbon Wednesday on the new Teen Center/Public Health Building at 2889 East Center St., Anderson. The building is 11,750 square feet and cost $3.5 million to design and construct. Shasta County owns 63.7 percent of it and the City of Anderson owns 36.3 percent.

It houses a dance studio, kitchen, computer lab, offices and activity areas designed with input from local youth. The new Southwest Regional Office of Shasta County Public Health will be part of the building, offering a variety of services.

Teen Center activities will be jointly guided by the city and Anderson Teens Taking Action, a group of local youth involved in community service.

The Teen Center will be officially open for business on July 1 and will operate Tuesday through Friday, 3-9 p.m., through the summer. An official “grand opening” will occur at the end of summer.
