The Cottonwood Little League Majors team Dodgers, U12, coached by Bo Adkins, played last Thursday in Red Bluff at Jackson Heights School for the Championship game. In the fourth play off game, the Dodgers beat the Red Bluff Cubs 9-3 for the North State Championship.
Blake Adkins pitched five innings for the win with eight strikeouts, walking one and allowing four hits. Clayton Rhodes held the win for the Dodgers with three up and three down in the sixth.
Adkins also led the hitting column going two for three with two doubles and three runs. Cody Veatch was two for three as was Ryan Lennon. Veatch had three runs and Steven Jordan had two runs and was three for three.
Game one
The Dodgers had played their first elimination game against the West Redding Cubs on June 8, with a 10-2 outcome in favor of the Dodgers.
Veatch was the winning pitcher for that game with 10 strikeouts and one walk, allowing only three hits. Veatch was also the leading hitter for the Dodgers going two for three for three runs. Lennon had a home run and Ryan O’Connor was two for three. Bo Adkins, Fred Hambley and Pat O’Connor are the coaches
Game two
In game two, a week ago Monday, the Foothill Yankees from Palo Cedro visited the Cottonwood Dodgers. The 19 wins and no losses for the Yankees paired them up with the Dodgers with their 18 wins and two losses but the outcome of the game had the Dodgers over the Yankees 14-4, eliminating the Yankees.
Adkins was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts, one walk, and five hits. Veatch once again led in hitting, going two for four with one double and two runs. Lennon went two for three with three RBIs. Rhodes went two for three with two runs and two RBIs. O’Connor was three for three with three runs.
Game three
Last Wednesday the Corning Giants visited the Cottonwood field for game three ending up 13-1 for the Dodgers and taking them to the championship match with Red Bluff.
Veatch was the winning pitcher throwing seven strikeouts, walking two and allowing two hits. Adkins led the hitting crew going two for three with two home runs and five RBIs. Veatch was two for three with three runs. Rhodes, O’Connor and Jordan all went two for three with Jordan hitting two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.
