Fast start to West Valley Track season

McOMBER FLIES - West Valley’s Josh McOmber sails over the 110-meter hurdles to take a 1st place 15.14 at last week’s meet with Enterprise. McOmber also took the 300-meter hurdles with a 41.20. On Saturday at the track meet in Chico McOmber broke the meet record in 14.2 on the 110 high hurdles.

Even though the West Valley – Enterprise Track and Field meet March 14 at West Valley was technically a scrimmage, some impressive scores emerged from coach Scott Fairley and assistant coaches Bill Elliott and Steve Main.

Varsity Girls

In the Varsity Girls 100-meter dash Amanda Oliva rang up a 13.53 and Rachelle Russell came in 2nd with a 13.81. The 200-meter dash saw Sarah Miles come in 1st at 29.17 and their 400-meter dash had Katie Jungwirth with a 1st place of 1:06.94, followed by Nichole Barry with a time of 1:09.89.

The 800-meter run saw Jungwirth win again with a 2:37.07 time as the 1600-meter run was dominated by Michelle Johnson with a 5:31.57. The 100-meter hurdles went to Stephanie Alward with a 16.83 and the 300-meter hurdles had Nichole Barry taking a 54.92.

The Girls West Valley team of Sarah Miles, Alyssa Christensen, Rachelle Russell, and Amanda Oliva came in at 51.99 in the 4x100 meter relay. Michelle Johnson, Katie Jungwirth, Stephanie Alward, and Alyssa Christensen came in at 4:33.22 in their 4x400 meter relay.

The high jump saw Nichole Barry jump 4’-10,” Jasmine Mally had 4’-08,” as did Katie Jungwirth. The pole vault went to Jessie Bailey at 7’-0” while Jessica Gibbins registered a 6’-6” jump.

The long jump stretched out a 14’-1” for Stephanie Alward while the triple jump had Rachelle Russell at 31-05 and Jasmine Mally at 27-11.

The shot put event took a 2nd for West Valley as Ashley Turner registered a 31-09, Amanda Zempel a 27-08.50, Jasmine Mally 27-06.50 and Becky West a 26-02. The discus throw saw Ashley Turner at 114-10 and Becky Unger at 109-07.

Varsity Boys

In the Varsity Boys 100-meter dash Tanner Schaeffer came in with a 11.70 followed by Enterprise’s Andrew Breshears with 11.94. In the 200-meter dash, Chio Saephan and David Hearn from Enterprise, came in 1st and 2nd while West Valley’s Ryan Russell took 3rd with a 25.75.

The 400-meter dash had Tad Phillips from Enterprise come in with a 55.51 and Jacob Frasher, from West Valley, come in at 56.12. Ryan Russell registered a 59.27. The 800-meter run had Ben Bradshaw in at 2:13 for West Valley.

In the 1600-meter run Zack Kaylor, from Enterprise, scored a 4:50 while Trevor Siperek, of West Valley, had a 4:52 and Ryan Fairley a 5:03.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Josh McOmber had a 15.14 to Brock Fowler’s 17.33 for Enterprise and the 300-meter hurdles again saw McOmber score a 1st place 41.20.

In the 4x100 meter relay, West Valley had 45.73 with Scott Kinyon, Ben Bradshaw, Ethan Ostrom and Tanner Schaeffer while the 4x400 meter relay went to Enterprise with a 3:53.34.

In the high jump Ethan Ostrom went for 5’-10” as did Jesse Hatcher. The pole vault had Ethan Ostrom go over the bar at 12-00 and Tanner Schaeffer at 9-06.

In the long jump Paul Jasper of Enterprise went 18-03 while Jesse Hatcher had a 17-08. The triple jump saw Tad Phillips, from Enterprise, with a 38-01 to Ben Bradshaw’s 36-05. Teammate Jared Fesler followed with a 34-02.

In the shot put, Jake Fuller registered a 46-08 to Andrew Breshears’ Enterprise distance of 45-04. The discus was also taken by Fuller at 172-02 as Andy Miller came in next with 133-09. Breshears had a distance of 121-05.

Women Varsity — West Valley 93 - Enterprise 26 — 15 events

Women JV — West Valley 78 - Enterprise 27 — 14 Events

Men Varsity — West Valley 70 - Enterprise 49 — 15 Events

Men JV — West Valley 78 - Enterprise 44 — 15 Events
