The new scoreboard at Doc Campbell field in Volonte Park did not register a first win for Anderson as they fell 4-2 to Corning last Thursday. Tyler Rodebaugh had two hits for the Cubs.
Central Valley topped West Valley 8-7 as Garhett Parent went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Roy Button had a home run for the Eagles.
Prep softball
Megan Mazanec hit a three-run home run to lead the West Valley softball team 5-4 over Corning on May 1. Nicki Feuerbach had a triple and Cierra Rovera picked up the win with six strike-outs.
West Valley beat Central Valley 11-1 on May 4 as Cierra Rovera struck out 11 batters to get the win.
She had a double and three RBIs to lead the West Valley Lady Eagles.
Brittni Ralph, Amanda Buchanan and Ashley Howerton each went 2-for-3 for West Valley which holds a seven win one loss in the Northern Athletic League. They have a 29-3 overall record.
Anderson Lady Cubs lost to Corning 4-2 on May 4 with Raylynn Ostrowski going 2-for-3 with two RBIs but it was not good enough to stop the Lady Cardinals.
Anderson has two wins with five losses in the NAL with a 10-14 overall record.
Track and field
Last Wednesday Anderson hosted a quad meet at West Valley High School. Central Valley, Lassen High, West Valley and Anderson met and competed in some very close races and events.
Beyond Prep
Renee Eckley, former West Valley track star, won the women’s javelin title at the Golden State Athletic Conference track and field championships in Fresno last week. The senior at Azusa Pacific College won the NAIA national title in the javelin as a sophomore in 2004. She won the conference title with a throw of 128-9.
Eckley finished sixth in the shot put at 40-feet 2-inches and finished in eighth place in the hammer throw at 119-feet 8-inches.
She qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the javelin, to be held May 24-26 in Fresno.
Auto racing
Ryan Foster of Anderson, racing for Golden Gate Racing, was 21st in the third race of the West Series after completing 188 laps. Foster had two top - 10 finishes in the first two races of the series.
Last Saturday put him in ninth place, from fourth, in the West Series point standings. On May 18, the NASCAR Grand National East-West Clash will be held in Elko, Minn. where Foster will run in his No. 21 car.
