Ronnye Garcia?: Dispatcher for Western Video Market, Shasta Livestock Auction

Born and raised in Marysville, Ronnye Garcia graduated from Wheatland High School in 1981.

After high school, he went to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, on a rodeo scholarship.

He spent 18 months in school studying agricultural business and competing on the school’s rodeo team in the bulldogging and team roping events.

After that, he decided to go “rodeo with the big boys.” Garcia moved to the North State in 1987 to work and to participate in and promote the sport of rodeo. He currently participates only in team roping and is one of the past co-owners of Four Star Rodeo.

Four years ago, Garcia started working at the Shasta Livestock Auction Yard coordinating transportation of livestock from the video sales. He dispatches the trucks and is the “go between” for the livestock buyer and seller. Garcia makes sure that the livestock makes it to its new location successfully.

“It is a difficult job to make everyone happy. If at least two of the people are happy with the delivery of the livestock in an individual sale, it is successful. Arranging for livestock transportation is a job of luck rather than skill. There are many difficult factors to consider. If everyone is happy it is an added bonus,” said Garcia.

Garcia has been involved in the agriculture industry all of his life and enjoys his job because of the people he is able to work around. Garcia said that the future of his job depends on what the cattle industry trends are in the area.

In his spare time, Garcia coaches his son’s little league team, competes in rodeos and works around the house. Garcia has been married to his wife, Kathy, for 11 years.
