KEEPING SCORE: Members of the 2007 Anderson High School baseball team with coaches Rick Russell, left, and Ken Kraft, right, stand in front of the new scoreboard at Doc Campbell field in Volonte Park.

The baseball field in Volonte Park was named after “Doc” Campbell who, in the 1970s, was instrumental in getting the lights and scoreboard put in the park through the Anderson Rotary Club. The scoreboard was “old and in need of replacement” said City Manager Scott Morgan and also president of the Rotary Club.

The Rotary Club held various fund-raising projects such as the wild game feed and the sports show to purchase the new remote control $7,200 scoreboard. The City of Anderson did the installation, and the lights will also be replaced at the ball field sometime this summer.
