BACK TO FIRST: West Valley’s Brittni Ralph, on an attempted steal, makes it back to first base as Lassen’s Shaylee Unterreiner gets the throw from the catcher at last Thursday’s game. Ralph made the return to first. She has 24 RBIs with three doubles, six triples and three home runs for a batting average of .412.
The Division III defending section champions West Valley earned the No. 2 seed and hosted No. 3 Enterprise at 4 p.m. yesterday. As of press time there were no scores reported.
Even though the Lady Eagles beat Lassen last Thursday 5-1 Lassen had taken the No. 1 seed after tying the Eagles in the Northern Athletic League with 9-1 records. Lassen split the regular-season series and have played in the past two section finals. Lassen hosted No. 4 Oroville and, with a win, the Lady Grizzlies could end up with their third section title in four years.
In Division IV the No. 5 Anderson girls visited No. 4 Corning to open the playoffs. With a win, the Cubs could play top-seeded Sutter for the second year in a row. The No. 1 Sutter Huskies hosted No. 8 Mount Shasta and No. 2 Wheatland hosted No. 7 Durham. That winner will play the winner of the No. 6 Orland and No. 3 Willows game.
