Project SHARE (Shasta Health, Academic and Recreation Enrichment) is a collaborative effort between the Shasta County Office of Education and the Cascade Union School District.
Site facilitator Maribel Castaneda said that 80-85 students, kindergarten through fifth grade, meet with her and her two liaisons Connie Bradley and Jennifer Godbout each day after school from 2-6 p.m. The students are divided into three groups, kindergarten and first grade, second and third grades, and fourth and fifth grades.
They do homework, academic games, and club activities such as science, arts and crafts and health and family.
“Friday is movie day in the school cafeteria,” said Bradley as she moved into the playground to interact with the students, including going up on the slides and playground equipment with them.
SHARE provides a daily snack when the students take a break from their homework assignments from their teachers.
The after-school SHARE group does a variety of activities which have been tailored to meet the students’ needs and have a positive effect on their behavior.
The afternoon school program has registration packets available at the Meadow Lane School office at 2770 Balls Ferry Road. For more information about Project SHARE, contact the school at 378-7030.
