New computer equipment for city of Anderson

At its Oct. 2 meeting, the Anderson city council approved spending $43,100 to replace the city’s existing computerequipment. Assistant City Manager Dana Shigley said that “although many parts had been replaced over time to keep it running smoothly, it was time to replace the whole system.”

Shigley said that the original system was installed in 1998 and the city had been budgeting for the anticipated replacement for some time. APEX Technologies, the city’s current computer services provider, will install two new servers, three new desktop computers and two printers for the finance department, an automated backup system, and all related hardware and software. The new system will streamline many processes and improve data security. The installation is estimated to take 60 days.

In other business, the council adopted the 2007 Anderson Bikeway Plan which will expand the city’s bikeway corridor “along Highway 273 to the Rhonda Road/Factory Outlet Drive area, and include the Anderson Marketplace and Shasta Factory Outlets shopping centers.” In order to remain eligible for Federal Bicycle Lane Account funds, cities and counties are required by state and federal agencies to adopt local bikeway plans every four years.

According to Anderson’s bikeway plan, the overall goal is “to improve air quality and to create a safe, efficient, and coordinated transportation environment that encourages bicycling at a reasonable cost.”
