Perspective: Season of sharing just ahead
Since most stores are already stuffed to the gills with holiday merchandise, I guess it’s not too early to start thinking about sharing the goodness of our lives with others. Our neighbors across the way, North Valley Bank is helping Anderson-Cottonwood Christian Assistance with their annual donations drive. Starting Nov.1 you can conveniently drop off non-perishable goods right after you’ve shopped at Safeway on the other side of Gateway Drive. If you have perishable goods, they need to be brought directly to ACCA, 2979 East Center St., Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Toys from the Heart drive will be kicking off Dec. 5; there will be more information in the Valley Post as the date nears.
We’re also getting into the season of holiday craft fairs and bazaars. There are many to pick from, depending on what’s closest to you or what your favorite cause is, but the great part is that if you buy from local crafters and vendors, you’re supporting the local economy. Plus, you get hand-made, one-of-a-kind items. Although, I’m not personally a big craft-fair shopper, I do look forward to one especially – the Frontier Senior Center’s holiday craft fair this Saturday and Sunday. Last year, I bought my all-time favorite crocheted potholders there and this year, who knows what loot I’ll leave with.
This weekend, Cottonwood is holding a fundraiser campaign party for another “Honorary Mayor” candidate to raise money to expand the community center. If you would like to show your support for this important Cottonwood community project, the bash will be at the center Saturday night, 6-9 p.m.
After a long Saturday of shopping and partying, you can start Sunday early by participating in the Anderson Fire Protection District’s annual Christmas tree cutting in the Shingletown area around 9 a.m. Call their office at 378-6699 for directions.
Thank you to those north state firefighters who have traveled south to help with the devastating fires in southern California. They have left their families to help those in need. We all wish for their speedy and safe return.
