In one of the first games of the 7th annual Shasta Lake Bass Easter Baseball Classic at Big League Dreams, West Valley got off to a fast start during Spring Break by taking the U-Prep Panthers 13-2. West Valley’s Al Doiron had a grand slam home Runduring the game. West Valley beat U-Prep 13-2.
The Etna baseball team beat West Valley 7-5 in the Tuesday afternoon game. The Eagles remained scoreless after five innings. The Etna Lions had taken the lead in the fourth inning to make it 7-0. The Eagles then scored five points, and, at 7-5 with loaded bases, Etna ended the game.
The West Valley High School baseball team lost to Lassen 7-5 at Big League Dreams last Wednesday, Mar. 26. It was West Valley’s second loss in the tournament. West Valley had a 3-2 first-inning lead from a double from Justin Clark and one from Jared Flower.
The Lassen starting pitcher Loren Rainey had started his 12 straight retirement of batters. In the fourth inning Lassen moved ahead with two runs in the fourth inning. By the sixth, an RBI single had guaranteed their lead.
In the sixth inning, West Valley took advantage of a Lassen error and then a walk. West Valley had Justin Naber drive in a single and Al Dorian added an RBI single but Lassen took the game to the books.
Central Valley had designed two championship games into the tournament so pitchers would not be overworked. Second and third-place division finishers also played each other on Friday.
Etna beat West Valley 7-5 on Tuesday, which gave the Eagles a chance at the third-place game on Friday.
Trinity beat Anderson 5-4. Shasta lost to Tulelake 12-5. The Shasta High Wolves finished 2-2 in the tournament, but did not play on Friday, which gave Anderson a chance to play in the Friday game with a win over Tulelake.
