Faren Reid, daughter of Anderson coaching legend Bob Reid, has taken over the track and field coaching duties for the Anderson Union High School.

Their season start took place April 2, on the West Valley High School track in a tri-meet. Lassen, Yreka and Anderson met and the results were not good for Anderson.

Reid said, “Our Anderson cubs are small in numbers but huge in spirit.”

With the renovation of the Anderson High stadium, also known as Bob Reid stadium, the “lack of practice facilities and a relatively small turnout did not deter the Anderson Cubs spirit,” said Faren Reid.

“The renovation has made things difficult for the track team this year, but the spirit and excitement generated by the few that have survived these difficult conditions make it all worthwhile,” said Reid.

That “Cub spirit” came through with nine first places, six second places and two third place finishes.

Reid said that “participants contributed greatly with their efforts and support and it is a good first step toward regaining the prestige that was a ‘given’ in Anderson athletics over the years.”

The final scores had Yreka on top with 311 points, Lassen next with 207 and Anderson with 78.

In boys’ varsity, Victor Timmons had a first in 100 meter and a second in the 200 meter races. Robbie Robertson to a first in the High Jump and Blain Johnson a second place. Derek Nichols had a first place in the Shot Put and a second in the Discus. Eric Starkey took a second in the Shot and second in the 100 meter.

In girls’ varsity, Halie Van Eperen took a first in the Shot Put. Megan Ball took a second in the Discus, a second in the 100 meter and a third in the Shot. Sydney Spraggins had a first place in the 100 meter.

In junior varsity competition, Donnie Wonder had a first place in the Boys’ 400 meter and Yui Gabriele took a first in the Girls High Jump. Chelsea Chatin had a second in the Girls 400 meter.
