UNSAFE MERGER: A Honda was dragged about 200 feet by a big rig on I-5 Thursday afternoon. No one was injured.

A traffic accident on I-5 north of Riverside Drive on Thursday at about 3 p.m. caused vehicle damage but no injuries.

The Honda Accord, driven by Susan Saephanh of Redding, merged into traffic from the Riverside Drive onramp. The Honda’s driver’s side struck the front right of a semi-truck driven by Chris Anderson of Wash.

The Honda was turned in front of the semi and pushed for a couple hundred feet, according to CHP officers on the scene. The Honda came to a rest on the left hand side of the semi-truck on the inside shoulder of the highway.

CHP reported that Anderson was within required 14 hours of service, meaning he had not driven for more than 14 hours in a day.

“I dragged her about a quarter mile down the road,” Anderson said.

“I’m just glad that I’m okay, and he’s okay,” Saephanh said, shaken by the accident.

The Honda was damaged on the driver’s side and the rear fender fell off. The front right corner of the semi-truck was damaged.

The Honda was towed from the location.
