The Miss Cottonwood Rodeo contest is officially underway for the 2008 Cottonwood Rodeo.
When selected, Miss Cottonwood Rodeo will be crowned before the grand entry Saturday, May 10, during the annual Mother’s Day rodeo held in the Bobby Jones Arena.
Additionally, the young lady will also represent Cottonwood on a statewide level throughout the 2008 rodeo season. This year’s queen contestants will help serve during the rodeo’s kick-off barbecue. They will also sell tickets to the 2008 Cottonwood Rodeo.
Erin Gibson, 16, is a junior at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro. She expects to graduate in 2009. For Gibson, rodeo has long been a way of life and vying for the Miss Cottonwood Rodeo title is something she has always wanted to do. She will use this as a stepping stone to prepare her to run for Miss Redding Rodeo and Miss Rodeo America. Gibson started riding at a young age. She has also competed in high school rodeo for two years. She enjoys being involved in the community and meeting new people. She is the daughter of Vicky Gibson of Palo Cedro.
Sandra Scott, 16, is a sophomore at Cottonwood Charter School in Cottonwood. She expects to graduate in 2009. Scott has been riding horses since she was 6 years old. She has participated in rodeo for the past year in barrel racing and breakaway roping. She also enjoys training horses with her mother. Scott will begin competing in high school rodeo next year. Her family relocated to the area one year ago to be closer to family and more rodeo opportunities. This year will be her first year competing in the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association.
Scott wants to be able to give back and support the community of Cottonwood. If selected, Scott said she also would be able to travel to different CCPRA rodeos. Scott is the daughter of Keith and Ileah Roquemore of Cottonwood.
Alexis Hermann, 16, of Cottonwood is a junior at West Valley High School. She expects to graduate in 2009. She has been riding horses for 11 years and is in her third year of high school rodeo. Hermann participates in barrel racing, breakaway roping and pole bending. She has long dreamed of becoming Miss Cottonwood Rodeo and is looking forward to representing her home town as Miss Cottonwood Rodeo.
