West Valley High School’s FFA teams came home happy from the 80th annual California State FFA Leadership Conference in Fresno.

The conference, held from April 19-22, consisted of a keynote speaker, many leadership workshops, a career show and a concert by the award-winning Country music band, “Emerson Drive.”

Prior to the conference, though, the state finals in parliamentary procedure, fruit tree judging and agriculture sales took place on Saturday, April 19, during the Fresno Field Day.

West Valley’s novice and advanced parliamentary procedure teams each advanced from the quarter-final state round, then the semi-final state round, and finally made it to the final found where only the top six teams from throughout California would compete the next day at Fresno State.

West Valley’s advanced parliamentary procedure team, consisting of Charity Groff, Casey Dykier, Taylor Samuels, Maddy Dubin, Alyssa Gutierrez, and Heather Haines, actually won the state event and have now qualified for the national finals in October in Indianapolis, Ind.

Senior Charity Groff was also the outstanding chairman for the state of California.

The novice parliamentary procedure team took runner-up in the speaking contest. West Valley’s fruit tree judging team placed fourth, agriculture sales took a sixth place, and livestock judging placed 14th.
