Jazz guitarist to open 49 Club this weekend
With the official opening of the 49 Club, 2959 E. Center St. in Anderson, comes solo guitarist Mickey Jones. Jones is scheduled to perform at the club Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8 and 9, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. A relatively new Shasta County resident, Jones plays only jazz, and has molded his own style to that of Joe Pass, a guitarist for the Oscar Peterson trio.
A 50-year guitar veteran, Jones has played alongside Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Rahsaan Roland Kirk.
Jones' performance will follow the expectations built-up from the club's first show featuring saxophonist Jules Broussard.
"(Jones) might be the same age as Jules, but they're definitely of the same caliber as musicians," said Nancy Dutton, Anderson Union High music teacher.
"We're really lucky to have him here," club owner Raymond Randle said of Jones. "That's what I want here (at the 49 Club), real quality musicians."
There will be a cover charge for the performance, but the exact amount had not been determined as of Tuesday afternoon.
