Local riders showcased in Summercross Nationals
Riders revved their engines, wheels spun dirt, and fearless drivers jumped their bikes into the air as they made the move to pass their opponents.
Hundreds of local motocross enthusiasts gathered in the Red Bluff fairgrounds grandstands to watch their favorite motocross riders in the Yamaha X-Treme Summercross Nationals.
Riders from Anderson, Cottonwood and Happy Valley had the opportunity to show off their local talents in a major competition close to home. They joined up with friends and competitors from all over Northern California and beyond to race and showcase freestyle motocross talents on Aug. 1-3.
“It’s a family oriented event,” said Anderson resident Dawn Lee, whose two sons competed in motocross races. “We have friends and people we compete against that we only get to see at the nationals.”
The Summercross Nationals featured professional racers, all the way down to young riders just trying out their wheels on the ‘big boys’ track.
Both males and females, from 4-years-old to the over-40 class tested their racing skills. Pro-events were held on Friday and Saturday nights, and more than 400 amateurs took the track on Sunday.
No matter what the age or skill-level, motocross riders gave everything they had to the fast-paced, heart-pounding race and freestyle acrobatic events.
