Neighborhoods ready to party
Anderson City Council members were escorted by police through the city’s themed block parties held throughout Anderson for Tuesday’s National Night. The event, sponsored by Anderson Police Department for the last nine years, encourages community awareness of crime and drug prevention.
Anderson Parks and Recreation hosted Family Fun Night at Volonte Park, where softball games and other activities, including the landing of a CHP helicopter, occurred. TJ’s Drive-in also held a car show during the event.
From 6 to 9 p.m., Chief Dale Webb and Captain Robert Kirvin led council members to various block parties, and judged them based on theme, originality, enthusiasm and overall community participation.
Councilman Keith Webster rode on a fire engine to the various parties. The advantage, he said, was to sample the eats at various parties and finish with homemade ice cream at the fire station.
