An 18-acre fire north of China Gulch Road and off Canyon Creek Road prompted the closure of Hwy 273 at Canyon Creek Road on Aug. 12. The fire, which was reported at 2:41 p.m. was 50 percent contained 40 minutes later.
"We threw everything we had at it," said CAL FIRE information officer Linda Galvin. "It was a human-caused fire, but what actually started it is still under investigation."
CAL FIRE, as well as Anderson and Redding fire resources responded. In all, three air tankers, two helicopters, four water tenders, 22 engines and 3 crews responded.
No residences were evacuated, although the sheriff's department was on hand to facilitate that if necessary.
The fire was wrapped up by 7 p.m.
