Anderson Explodes! Aug. 30

Anderson’s annual festival and fireworks display is set for Aug. 30 this summer, since the event was postponed on July 3 due to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal-FIRE) occupying the Shasta District Fair grounds as its command center.

The fairground’s gates at 1890 Briggs St. open at 4 p.m. for action at the Shasta Raceway races as well as the 4-H and FFA barbecue.

The barbecue, which features meat donated from fair animals, will cost $10 per ticket.

The Redding group Slam Buckra and his Groove Palookas will play on the Pepsi stage from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

American Idol contestant Emily Ball will sing the national anthem before the fireworks at approximately 10 p.m., as the races end.

Other entertainment includes a demonstration by Redding Tae Kwon Do and music by Clark Davis. The free event also includes face painting, a bounce house, pony rides, Gunner the Clydesdale and vendors.

Coolers, bottles and pets are not allowed.
