Bruce Street has been closed in Anderson after a semi-truck collided with the Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District (ACID) aqueduct while trying to pass underneath at approximately 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14. A clearance of 12’6“ was clearly marked.

The warning was deemed adequate by Howard Fincher of the Anderson Fire Protection District.

Gregg Landing of Fortuna had been hauling scrap wood to the landfill and had taken a wrong turn, ending up on Bruce Street instead of West Anderson Drive, according to Anderson Police Department Sergeant Bryan Van Dyke. The top of the trailer was peeled back showing the scrap wood inside. Some bits of the trailer clung from the aqueduct.

The road will be closed until ACID confirms that the aqueduct is structurally sound, Van Dyke added.

“This thing is about 100 years old,“ said APD chief Dale Webb, adding that a historical plaque of the aqueduct’s age was on South Street. There were no injuries.
