The Central Valley soccer team went to the West Cottonwood field on Thursday, February 7, and played the West Valley High School boys’ team coached by Tim Minami.
The game ended in a tie, so a shootout was held resulting with a 3-0 win for the Eagles.
In the shootout, Deckert, Dylan Fematt and Jered Flower made the goals for West Valley.
The boys’ soccer team also defeated the Yreka Miners on Monday, Feb. 4, with a 4-0 victory.
Jared Flowers scored the first goal early in the first half, assisted by Manny Guiterez. In the second half, Guiterez scored two goals, one unassisted and the other assisted by Jared Flowers. With five minutes to go in the game, Freshman Jose Rincon scored the final goal against the Miners, assisted by Alex Alverez.
On Friday, Feb.1, in a boys’ doubleheader, West Valley boys defeated Lassen High School 2-1. Jared Flowers had the first goal and was assisted by Ray Close.
In the second half of the game Close scored the final and winning goal with an assist by Dillan Fematt.
In the second game of the day, West Valley boys’ lost to Corning 3-0.
West Valley ended the regular season 5-8-1 overall and 3-6-1 in league.
Girls’ soccer
The West Valley Girls’ kept their game at 1-0 through the first half with a goal scored by Nichole Berry. In the second half of the game, the Yreka Miners scored two goals within the last ten minutes. This resulted in a 2-1 loss against the Miners.
In the Friday girls’ doubleheader, they lost the first game to Lassen 2-0. They won the second game against Corning 3-1. Cassie DuBonis scored two goals and then Tacey Whittemore scoring the final goal to win the game for West Valley.
