It was Anderson’s senior night on Friday, Feb. 15, as the Lady Cubs took the floor. The Anderson team took their traditional mid-court line up position for the singing of the National Anthem. Senior Corinna Asher sang the anthem as she had done on at least one other game this season.
The team has eight seniors and two juniors, so they made the most of the evening by handing Corning a loss. The game ended 64-42.
Playmaker Courtney Baker created continuous setups for her teammates as she brought the ball down the court countless times. She only had two points, but more than compensated in her playmaking.
Molly Morton led the ladies with 21 points. Asher put in 12 points followed by Amrallina Rowland’s 10. Megan Remley had two 3-pointers for six points. Bethany Cummings also had a 3-point shot with a total of seven for the night.
Halie Van Eperen added four points to the total, while junior Sabrina McCary added two more.
Anderson’s athletic administrator Brandt Shriner said that this year’s team has also one of the highest grade point averages of any girls’ team.
The Anderson Lady Cubs hold an 8-2 league record (with a 20-4 overall). The Corning Cardinals have a 13-10 record.
The Lady Cubs could be in the semifinal game with No. 4 Corning. The Corning Cardinals will play the winner of No. 12 Central Valley (4-19) at No. 5 Winters (14-10) in a game tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
