Police in Shasta County are on the lookout for Joshua Allen Brown, 22, of Oregon, who is suspected by the Sheriff's Department of stabbing Kurtis Joseph Mattingly in Cottonwood on Sunday night.

"He's on foot with no friends in Shasta County. I'm busy getting a warrant for him," said Sgt. John Hubbard, who went on to describe Brown as 5'10" and 160 pounds, with tattoos and light-colored hair.

"He has a warrant for his arrest in Oregon for a parole violation," added Sgt. Brown.

On Sunday, Jan. 20, at 9 p.m., Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an altercation at an apartment at 3324 Saint Omer St., No. 26, in Cottonwood. During a physical altercation, Brown allegedly stabbed Mattingly three times in the back.

"I'm sure there was alcohol involved," Sgt. Hubbard said.

Mattingly was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. He has since been released.
