As fires rage, Haven offers shelter for North State pets

Haven Humane Society announced the animal shelter will be available for temporary housing of pets whose owner families are evacuated from their homes during the North State fire disaster, said Interim CEO Yvonne Preston.

The shelter, located at 7559 Eastside Road, Redding, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is also ready to assist with temporary sheltering of small and large farm animals.

“We want the public to know we are here for the animals in these types of emergencies,” Preston said. “Haven is a Humane Society dedicated to the welfare of all animals and we specifically address the needs of pets here in the North State.”

She also said Haven’s Mobile Adoption/Disaster Rescue Unit is equipped and ready at a moments notice if the fire conditions worsen and more homes are evacuated.

Preston said if anyone finds displaced pets because of the fires, please take the animals to the closest veterinarian or to Haven for micro-chip scanning to determine identification so they may be returned to their homes.
