Happy Valley 4-H wraps up its 2008 activities

The Happy Valley 4-H Club year has almost come to a close. The club met recently to elect officers. The new officers will be installed in the fall.

Many members of the club participated in the 86th Shasta District Fair. The swine group dedicated their aisle at the fair to veterans of the past and present. They gathered pictures of veterans. Club members made frames around the photos and attached sheets of paper telling which wars the veterans had been in, as well as the branch of service in which they served. On the back of each photograph, the club members wrote a letter telling each veteran what the club member had done, and then each member signed the paper.

When the fair was over, the club’s members laminated the art work and sent it to the veterans as a community service project. They had veterans from Korea, World War II, Vietnam and Iraq!

It was a good way for our members to thank the veterans for their service to our country.

The beef, horse, sheep and other projects were also shown and exhibited at the fair. Happy Valley 4-H Club did very well!

The next thing coming up for the club is our annual 4-H and FFA barbecue on July 3 during the Anderson Explodes! event held at Fusaro Hall at the fairgrounds in Anderson.

Tickets to the barbecue are still available for only $10 from any 4-H member. This ticket provides the buyer with an all-you-can-eat dinner of pork, beef, lamb and goat. Corn, salad and a drink are also included. Half of each ticket is donated back to our club, so please support the Happy Valley 4-H and FFA kids out there!

This is my last article as reporter for our club. Sam Reynolds has been elected as the new Historian/Reporter. He will start those duties in the fall. Thank you to the Valley Post newspaper and the 4-H Tips & Topics newsletter for printing my articles this year.
