Where are the signs? Where are the tickets? Isn’t there going to be a barbecue this year?
These questions and more have been flying around Happy Valley for weeks. The answer is “Yes!” The signs are now up, tickets are on sale at local businesses and preparations are in order.
With so many firefighters being pulled away from Happy Valley to serve other communities in their times of need, the annual barbecue has been on the back burner. Normally, firefighters would have been going door to door, selling tickets every week night. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been possible this year.
Fire Captain Tyler Bassham and firefighter Ronny Simmons are co-chairing the annual event and both of them have been out on fires for the last two weeks. Not to fear, though, others are taking up the slack. Happy Valley Fire Department’s biggest annual fund-raiser will take place on Saturday, July 19.
Dinner will include tri-tip, corn on the cob, beans, salad and French bread. Milk and coffee are provided with the dinner. Beer, wine, sodas and water are sold separately. The dinner will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. and an auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dancing commences at 8:00 p.m.
Presale tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages 12 and under. If purchased at the event, tickets prices will go up by $1.
More details will be provided in next week’s edition. In the meantime, the community is urged to purchase tickets at local businesses or at the fire halls. For more information, call 357-2345.
