Happy Valley Pride: July 9, 2008

The all-you-can-eat 4-H and FFA barbecue had to be Postponed until Aug. 30 due to the firefighter incident command center set up at the Shasta District Fair grounds. The Happy Valley Community Park committee has come out with a cookbook for $10. If you want one, give Barbara Jackson a call at 378-6060 and order yours today.

The park committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Happy Valley Community Center. In conjunction with the cookbook, you can become a member of the Friends of the Happy Valley Park. Membership is $10 annually. All proceeds benefit the Happy Valley Community Park.

The governor has called out the National Guard so Anthony, my son, has packed his bags and is off to Red Bluff. He just got back from Oklahoma where he took a search and rescue course learning to save people in an earthquake. His employer is very understanding, so he will have his job when he gets back. He was told there is no definite return date. I just hope he gets back by August 30 for that is the day he ends his bachelorhood.

Here at the farm, we are working to get ready for the wedding. There is so much to do, but in a pinch everyone shows up to give a hand. It will be a church wedding and the reception is here. Fortunately, we’ve had a reception here before so I know what has to be done.

This will be a short column this week. I hope everyone has a safe and sane Fourth of July. For the first time we will only have about 14 people here this year it will see strange not to have 30 people here. Take care, volunteer, do a good deed and say a prayer for our service men and our firefighters.
