“When the kennels become full at Haven Humane Society it means these dogs need a forever home,” said Interim CEO Yvonne Preston. “And, when people out in the public are struggling to feed their animals, we are compelled to help.”

That’s why Haven is promoting the ‘Dog Days of Summer’ campaign, that kicks off Friday, July 18, at PetSmart in Redding, Preston said, adding that the event promotes a reduced adoption fee of $25 for adult dogs and a reduced fee of $30 for puppies, as well as a food drive to help pet owners on low income during the current economic slump.

“We especially need to make room for the steady stream of unwanted dogs that end up at our shelter and we want to help those who come to our doors with no way to feed their animals,” she said. “We will be taking food donations at our mobile adoption unit in PetSmart parking lot and at Haven’s animal shelter, 7449 Eastside Road, Redding.

Preston said there will be plenty of adoptable dogs and puppies at the mobile adoption unit and refreshments will be served from 11 a.m. throughout the afternoon. Mid-day, live radio broadcasts will also be announcing from the kickoff event.

She said the “Dog Days of Summer” reduced adoption fees and food drive will continue through August.
