From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5th, residents and businesses throughout Anderson are encouraged to lock their doors, go outside and spend the evening with neighbors and the Anderson Police Department.
There will be a variety of special events planned throughout the city including a community “Family Fun Night” at Volonte Park, where C.H.P. will land their helicopter for children to view, and the 2nd annual National Night Out Car Show hosted at T.J.’s Drive-In on Ferry Steet.
Members of the APD, Citizens on Patrol, Anderson Fire Protection District and Anderson City Council members will visit each of the block parties. They will speak with members of the community about Neighborhood Watch, crime prevention, drug awareness, and address concerns citizens may have within their neighborhoods and the community.
Block Parties will be judged based on theme, originality, enthusiasm, and overall community participation. At the end of the event we will distribute several awards including a “Best Block Party Award.”
This year, thanks to generous donations from Wal-Mart and other local businesses, APDwill be giving away a stainless-steel barbecue with accessories, two free full-body massages, free movie passes to Prime 11 Cinemas, and a one-night stay for two including two spa treatments at the new Gaia Hotel in Anderson.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate participation in local law enforcement anti-crime efforts, strengthen partnerships between neighborhoods and police, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are getting organized and fighting back against crime.
To host a block party or for more information about “National Night Out” please contact Officer Nevens at (530) 378-6600.
