Corning loses 61-49 at Anderson on Feb. 26

This was not a repeat of the Feb. 21 Mt. Shasta match, as the Lady Cubs were back into their game.

Anderson High School girls’ basketball team beat Corning 61-49 Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Northern Section Division IV semifinal game.

Cub senior Molly Morton scored a game-high 25 points. Amrallina Rowland and Megan Remley each scored eight, while Corinna Asher and Courtney Baker each added seven. Halie Van Eperen had four points, and Bethany Cummings two.

To start the game, Morton hit on back-to-back baskets. That was followed by a pair from Remley and two more from Morton.

The Cardinals looked for open shooters; but on several occasions, Morton or Rowland deflected passes to be scooped up by teammate Baker. The Cubs led 42-27 heading into the final eight minutes, but a discrepancy on a third quarter Corning one-and-one added a point to the Cardinals’ total.

Unlike last week’s 37-33 win over No. 8 Mount Shasta when four Cubs scored on a “different” shooting night, Anderson had seven players in Tuesday’s scorebook.
