WV boys lose to Yreka in baseball playoffs

West Valley High School was eliminated from the playoffs by the Yreka Miners by a score of 7-3 last Friday.

“Our goal was to make it to the playoffs, and we did,” coach Tim Roberts said. “I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Justin Clark started the Eagles off in the first with a double and later scored on a passed ball.

The Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the second inning when Jared Flower hit a two-run homerun.

Yreka rallied in the 3rd with five runs and another in the 6th. West Valley couldn’t counter the onslaught.

“All but one starter is coming back,” Roberts said. “We have a young team, and a great group coming up from JV.”

Those expected to leave include Jared Flower, Tanner Schaeffer, Mason Emerson, and Josh Van Dixon.

West Valley team batting leaders during the year were Justin Naber, .373, Justin Clark, .337, with Matt Roberts and Joseph Clark both batting .295. Tanner Schaeffer batted .500 but sported fewer at bats.
