The Northern Free Trappers and Muzzle Loaders Club of Northern California are once again preparing for the 14th annual Darryl Burbank Memorial Turkey Shoot, which will take place Nov. 15 in Cottonwood.
Each year the club accepts applications for a North State resident who has cancer or some other form of life-threatening disease. They hold a one-day event in which all of the proceeds are given to help with medical bills or whatever is needed.
This year, the candidate is Stephen Surtees, a 17-year-old Red Bluff High School student with bone cancer. Surtees was diagnosed with Osterosarcoma in April. Osterosarcoma is a very aggressive form of bone cancer.
The event will be held in Cottonwood, off of Gas Point Road on Two Feathers Road. The event includes the use of black powder rifles, black powder shot guns, hawk and knife throwing, a fun shoot and raffles. Tri tip and chili will also be served for $8 per person. Raffle prizes have been donated by many local businesses and sponsors.
