The allure of medical marijuana may have been the motive in a home invasion robbery early Friday morning that left one male victim injured, Anderson's Chief of Police Dale A. Webb said.

Sen Ching Saefong, 27, of Anderson received several cuts and abrasions for which he was treated at Mercy Medical Center in Redding prior to his release by the hospital.

He and Ou Ching Saefong, 23, who was not injured, were alone in a Webster Street residence when three Asian men with weapons forced their way into the residence shortly after 4 a.m. Oct. 17, Webb said.

The Saefongs, who possess a doctor's recommendation for medical marijuana as allowed under California's Proposition 215, told investigators that at least one of the robbers had a hand gun while another robber carried what appeared to be some type of rifle.

Although both victims initially were overpowered, assaulted and detained by the robbers, the two victims were each able to later escape from the residence and called police from a neighbor's house.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Anderson Police Department at 378-6600, Webb said.
