It's flu season again and the Shasta County Public Health Department is holding its annual flu shot clinics throughout Shasta County. They will hold one in Happy Valley on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Happy Valley Community Center, 5400 Happy Valley Road.
If you have MediCare Part B or Medi-Cal, there is no charge for the shots. For all others, the flu shot is $10 while a pneumonia vaccine is $43.
If you do not live in Happy Valley, call Shasta County Public Health at 225-5591 to find a flu shot clinic near your residence.
The Happy Valley Farm Trail is putting together is map for 2009. Now is the time to join. For just $30 you will get the following:
We print up 3,000 maps that are distributed throughout the county. We publicize the Farm Trail at the Happy Valley Strawberry Festival, the Shasta District Fair and at Family Fun Day held annually at Anderson River Park. We also did a Happy Valley Farm Trial Bingo Run, and I was even interviewed on live radio. We were also featured in the Record Searchlight and the Valley Post has also done articles on us. We are also on the internet. Just type in "Farm Trails California" as the search words and we will pop up, or you can go to www.clearcreekcsd.com/farm.html and see all of the farms listed. If you want to join Happy Valley Farm Trail or just need more information, give us a call at 357-2416. However, don't wait too long as we want to come out with the new Farm Trail map by the first part of January.
The 5th annual "Chili for the Chills" will be held Friday, Nov. 7, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Happy Valley Community Center. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children between the ages of 5 to 12. Children younger than 5 are free. Desserts will be available for $1. Dinner includes chili, coleslaw and corn bread. There will be a raffle, $1 a ticket or 6 for $5. Call Marjorie Jones at 357-3829 to purchase tickets. All proceeds will go the Happy Valley Citizens Patrol to purchase gasoline and repair the patrol car.
Be a volunteer rain spotter. State climatologist Michael Anderson of the California Department of Water Resources is encouraging California residents to participate in a volunteer program to measure precipitation. Home-based and amateur rain spotters take daily rainfall measurements and report them to www.cocorahs.org. Each volunteer is asked to read a rain gauge every day at the same time and upload the measurement to the Web site. The result is more precise information about where rain, snow and hail falls, and in what amounts. More information is available at their Web site. Clear Creek Community Service Water District has 20 rain guages available on a first-come, first-served basis. It would be interesting to learn more about Happy Valley's weather patterns.
Well, that's it for this week. Remember to volunteer..
