Police raid nets 100,000 marijuana plants

A 19-year-old transient from Mexico was arrested Tuesday after authorities raided this morning a large marijuana garden that was growing more than 100,000 plants in eastern Shasta County.

Elias Chavez-Guerrero was arrested on suspicion of cultivating and possessing marijuana, as well as a weapons violation, a spokesman for the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies with the Marijuana Eradication Team (Met) were joined with agents and officers from numerous agencies in the marijuana operation east of Millville in the Old Cow Creek drainage area.

More than 104,550 marijuana plants were found and destroyed, while Chavez-Guerrero was taken into custody.

At least three others were seen running away from the area, the sheriff’s spokesman said.

The men are believed to be armed and dangerous and a reverse 911 system was activated to warn those living in the area.

Those who might see anyone suspicious are asked to call SHASCOM at 245-6540.

The public is also warned to use caution should they find an illegal marijuana growth and to report it to 722-9161.
