After giving up the early lead, the Cubs softball team chipped away at the gap during their game against Yreka at the Anderson River Park on Thursday.

But, in spite of the nice rally, the Cubs came just short of the win with a final score of 8-9.

Freshman Cheridan Hawkins had three hits and three RBIs. Sophomore Karli Pokorny had two hits and two RBIs, while sophomore Jaylynn Trotter had one hit with two RBIs.

The Cubs went on to play in the Arcata tournament last weekend, where they lost to St. Bernard's High School in Eureka, 4-11. Sabrina McCary and Cheridan Hawkins each had one hit, with two RBIs. Later in the day, the Cubs faced McKinleyville High School, where they suffered a close 5-7 loss.

Top hitters for this game include Cheridan Hawkins and Karli Pokorny with two hits. Jaylynn Trotter and Ashley Dial each had a hit that brought a runner in.

The Cubs are now 6-14 overall, and 0-2 in league play.
